The woven label sewn into every item of Tender clothing depicts an elephant wearing polished boots and a blanket, carrying a flag in her trunk. This elephant is adapted from a 19th Century American engraving exhorting the reader to ‘Hie! ye Penniless, Hie!’ on the ‘SEVEN-LEAGUE-BOOTS EXPRESS’ to seek their fortune in the New World.
Over the years a menagerie has been painted, engraved, printed, stuffed, stamped, and cast, drawing inspiration from this original elephant, the natural world, and literary history.
