Many of Tender’s woven and knitted linen garments are constructed from deadstock yarn spun in Ireland of Irish-grown flax in the 1960s. Irish-spun yarn is extremely difficult to obtain, as most of the spinners closed down decades ago. However a stock of old natural undyed ‘brown’ yarn was found during a company liquidation and we are lucky to be able to use it. This deadstock yarn is also very slubby, so will reveal unique characteristics in each piece.
Other garments use British-woven industrial linen fabrics. Linen provides excellent vibration absorption, and so is used, laminated with resin, in engine housing panels, and in the hulls of racing cars.
