MARS BLACK
Mars black is an artists’ pigment derived from iron oxide in magnetite, or lodestone. Unlike plant and animal-derived black pigments, Mars black is particularly stable and gives a deep, clean colour when mixed into paint.
Mars black was developed in the late 19th Century, and is named for the Roman deity Mars, god of iron and of war and agriculture.
