FIVE PLY GANSEY WOOL YARN
Wool Gansey Yarn is spun in England from five plies of glossy worsted-finished British wool. Gansey pullovers originated on the island of Guernsey around the 15th Century, and were knitted for fishermen to wear at sea.
While most knitting yarn is spun of two or three plies, five ply gansey is particularly dense and substantial, giving the garments weight and wind-resistance. For these pieces, the yarn is knitted in a traditional fisherman’s rib, showing the same on the inside and outside faces.
